Hebrews 8 - New Covenant written in our hearts and minds

Setting – explaining the New Covenant Content – I like how NLT intros this chapter (v.1 NLT) “ Here is the main point : Our High Priest sat down in the place of highest honor in heaven, at God's right hand.” This point being that Jesus is our high priest now for us with God. Verse 2 (NLT), “There he ministers in the sacred tent, the true place of worship that was built by the Lord and not by human hands.” Jesus’ place of ministry is a permanent place of worship. The place of worship here (v. 5a NLT) “is only a copy, a shadow of the real one in heaven.” Jesus, under the new covenant, (v. 6 NLT) “is the one who guarantees for us a better covenant with God, based on better promises.” Because (v. 7 NLT) “the first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no need for a second covenant to replace it.” But (v. 8 NLT) “God himself found fault with the old one when he said: “The day will come, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and Judah”” The...

Deuteronomy 31 - Not forsaking my God

Setting – Moses will commission Joshua to lead Israel. Israel will defeat the nations before them. But the Lord told Moses that Israel would forsake the Him. Content – Moses is 120 years old and God said that his death is pending. He was to commission Joshua to lead Israel across the Jordan. God will go before Israel into the Promise Land (v. 8), “…The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed." God tells Moses that Israel will fall away from Him (v. 18), “But I will surely hide My face in that day because of all the evil which they will do, for they will turn to other gods” Moses was to write a song (v. 19), “…so that this song may be a witness for Me against the sons of Israel.” & (v. 21), “…Then it shall come about, when many evils and troubles have come upon them, that this song will testify before them as a witness (for it shall not be forgotten from the lips of their descendants)”. Judges 15 - God works through all circumstances

Setting – Philistines sought to kill Samson because he burned down their grain, grapevines and olive trees. Content – Samson returned for his wife, that he left on his wedding day, but found out that she had been given to his best-man by her father. Samson light foxes tails to burn the Philistines fields of grain, grapevines and olive trees. The Philistines found out why Samson did this (v. 6), “"Who did this?" the Philistines demanded. "Samson" was the reply, "because his father-in-law from Timnah gave Samson's wife to be married to his best man." So the Philistines went and got the woman and her father and burned them to death” Once the tribe of Judah find out why the Philistines where ready to attach them, they sought and found Samson at rock of Etam.
