Setting – Paul concludes with a list of items to address to the Galatians
Content – Those who gain instruction (v. 6) “share all good things with the one who teaches {him.}” which is the spiritual blesses gained from this teach, not necessarily ones wealth or possessions.
God is not one to be mocked (v. 7a) “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked” because (v. 7b) “whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.” Paul expands on this thought (v. 8) “For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life” God’s ways, which are spiritual rather than fleshly, are the correct way to live. Living against this design, and in doing so mocking God’s plan, one will have its rewards/consequences.
“So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith” (from verse 10). God’s plan is to help others (loving our neighbor) and to give extra effort to the family of God.
Application – We need to do good, which is God’s plan. Our doing good is spiritually fueled rather than fleshly or human based. From doing good we reap the reward of eternal life, whereas fleshly efforts will results in rewards that will decay. One of the ways we align to spiritual “sowing” is to help others, especially those of the family of God. Even though this can be hard to continue to do this, we shouldn’t loose heart.
