Setting – Chris returns to win the war.
Content - Jesus first came in humility (Phil. 2:8), “Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” He rode a cult into Jerusalem, which signifies coming in peace. Now He rides a white horse, which is a symbol of eminence and one of victory.
Once Christ wins the war, He sets up His kingdom to rule for a thousand years on earth. Satan is bound during this thousand years so that no deception comes from him.
Those Christians that didn’t follow Satan (receive the mark) were spared Christ sword of death, will live on during the thousand years with those resurrected saints, the ones following Christ on His white horse. During these thousand years, man heart is still evil and rejects Christ even though He rules and they live among the resurrected saints. Satan is released and deceives these unbelievers to gather for war against Christ, but God wipes them out before a war ever gets started.
Rev. 20:6a “Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection.” The saints that have already died or that are reputed.
Rev 20:6b, “The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the thousand years had ended.” These are the unbelievers. After the thousand years and at the time of the Great White Throne the unbelievers are brought to judgment (v. 13), “The sea gave up the dead in it, and death and the grave gave up the dead in them. They were all judged according to their deeds.”
The first death is the natural death of a human. The second death (v. 14), “death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death--the lake of fire.” Occurs after the final judgment and is those that weren’t found in the book of life.
Application – Christ will win over everyone, “every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord” (Phil. 2:10-11). The bottom line is if your name is in the book of life, you are saved and don’t experience separation from God, that is, you don’t experience the second death – eternal judgment.
