Setting – Cities were given to the Levites to live in.
Content – Since the Levites didn’t posses land they were given cities to live within. Some of the cities had the city of refuge in it.
God fulfilled His promise (v. 45), “Not one of the good promises which the LORD had made to the house of Israel failed; all came to pass.” He also gave Israel rest (v. 44), “And the LORD gave them rest on every side, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers, and no one of all their enemies stood before them; the LORD gave all their enemies into their hand.”
Application – God’s will for Israel was complete. He provided the Promised Land (Gen. 12:6,7) (v. 7), “The LORD appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.”” and He gave them peace (Deut. 12:10), “When you cross the Jordan and live in the land which the LORD your God is giving you to inherit, and He gives you rest from all your enemies around {you} so that you live in security…”
God fulfilled His promise and worked to complete it over and above the sins that Israel committed. God fulfilled His promises and proved Himself continually throughout scripture. So we can rely on His promises for heaven and to provide what we need in life (Matt. 6:31-34), “Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?' (32) "For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. (33) But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (34) So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
I sure need a continual reminder that God is faithful.
