Setting – Territory allocated to the son of Joseph, Ephraim.
Contents – The territory that was allocated to Ephraim, which included (v. 9), “Ephraim was also given some towns with surrounding villages in the territory of the half-tribe of Manasseh” They also didn’t driver our the Canaanites, but lived as their slaves (v. 10), “They did not drive the Canaanites out of Gezer, however, so the people of Gezer live as slaves among the people of Ephraim to this day”
Application – The inheritance was granted by God to the tribes of Israel. We see that God blessed Jacob’s children (twelve sons). God can bless our grandchildren as well, if we He finds us to be a blessing in His sight. We easily forget, or are shortsighted, that our lives also are a blessing or curse to our decedents. We see how David’s line was blessed because of how he followed God. This is true of Abraham, Jacob as well. God keeps his commitments of blessings, do we? Do we keep our commitments to God or just until we move onto something else.
