Joshua 12 - God working through us

Setting – This chapter outlines the kings that Israel defeated, but Moses and Joshua.

Content – Israel, while under Moses, defeated King Sihon and King Og, this land was given to the tribes of Rueben, Gad and half tribe of Manasseh. The rest were defeated under Joshua.

Application – God, through Moses and Joshua, provided the Promise Land to Israel. God led the defeat through Israel. Through both the leaders and the nation God accomplished what He promised. God allowed both to experience godly victories. The requirement of the leaders and people where that they needed to follow God’s commandments and be holy.
God can accomplish much through us, if we provide a holy vessel for Him to use. God made not use us to defeat armies or nations, but He can use us in order to lay the foundation for others to do great things. The missionary Jim Elliot is a perfect example. He and four other men were killed while trying to evangelize the Waodani people. Even though Jim didn’t get to see these people saved, his (and the four other men’s) death gave great attention to this area. The Waodani people were later saved and largely because of the death of these men. So through Jim Elliot and other committed men, God saved the Waodani people.
