Setting - Follow God’s commandments that it might be well with you and pass them down to each generation.
Content - Moses instructions Israel to diligently observe/obey God’s commandments. In doing so, Israel would prosper. Israel was to (v. 13), "...fear only the Lord your God; and you shall worship Him and swear by His Name" & (v. 18), "You shall do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, that it may be well with you and that you may go in and possess the good land which the LORD swore to {give} your fathers..." The key verses are (v. 5 & 6), "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart." They are to be on our doorpost, talked when we go to bed and wake up and should be on our foreheads and hands.
Moses advises that God brought Israel out of slavery from Egypt and (v. 10, 11), "...to give you great and splendid cities which you did not build, houses full of all good things which you did not fill, and hewn cisterns which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant..."
Israel was to have this information, commandments (v. 24-25) and God leading out of Egypt (v. 21-23), passed down to generations.
Application - God wants us to remember what He has done for us and talk about them all the time within our house. He also wants us to follow what He has commanded/instructed so that it might be well with us. I need to have God in the forefront of my thoughts continually. I can only do this when I spend daily (or more) time with Him. I need to be consistent and purposeful with my engagement with Him so that I (v. 12), "...watch yourself, that you do not forget the LORD who brought you from the land of Egypt..." I exist because God created me. I have a heavenly home because God provided the payment of my sin. I am blessed, when I follow Him, because He decides so. All of these, and the list is greater, need to be remembered and talked about often. Reminders need to be on walls of our house.
