Deuteronomy 4 (What God has done)

Setting - Moses speaks to Israel reminding them of their encounters with God and the amazing things that God has done for them, as well as admonishing them against following idol images.
Content - Verse 40 sums up the chapter, "So you shall keep His statues and His commandments which I am giving you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may live long on the land which the Lord your God is giving you for all time".
Moses also mentions about how God was with them in defeating nations greater than they. As well as, how they heard God (v. 33), "Has any people heard the voice of God speaking from the midst of the fire, as you have heard it, and survived?" Moses reminds Israel of what God has done and what they have experienced as a nation.
Application - Don’t forget what God has done for us. We are saved from hell and have a heavenly home and inheritance awaiting us. All of this is not deserved, but God feely gives us, we just need to follow His commandments. He has preserved His word in the Bible so that we have an instruction manual to understand Him and who He is and what He desires from us. In addition, He sent Jesus as a final offering for our sins and a model of what God is like - loving, merciful, gracious, forgiving, etc.
Just has Moses instructed Israel to pass down to future generations what God has done for them (v. 9), "...but make them known to your sons and your grandsons" we are to instruct our decedents who God is and what He has done.
