Numbers 26

Setting - God commanded Moses to take a census of all Israel’s men twenty years and older.
Content - The census numbered all of the tribes and provided some details, such as history, for each tribe.
Application - Some of the lack of numbers or land inheritance is due to the sin that took place by that tribe or individuals. For example, Simon’s low numbers might be due to their sins committed at Peor (Baal worship, Num. 25:14). The sons Er & Onan didn’t have an inheritance due to their sin (Gen. 38:1-10).
What am I doing now to pass along a good inheritance to my decedents or a bad inheritance? Numbers 14:18 states, "The LORD is slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He will by no means clear {the guilty,} visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth {generations.}'" is a sobering verse. Even though God is forgiving, He doesn’t always remove the consequences of our sin. The affect of our sins is short and long-term.
