We see that God delivers Israel through Othniel, Gideon & Samson because Israel did evil in the sight of God. The reoccurring theme was “they did what was right in their own eyes”. Judges showed that bizarre things occur when God’s people don’t follow God closely. One reason why Israel drew away from God was because they didn’t drive out the Canaanite people as God commanded. These people influenced Israel, which lead the way for idol worship, such as Baal. God delivered the people to captures in order to get Israel’s attention. Once Israel cried out to God, He delivered them.
God didn’t depart from His people; He stood by, even during their abominations. We have a God whose love goes beyond our sin, but because He loves us, doesn’t leave us to live in sin. He allows our sin to lead us to consequences, hoping that we return to Him.
