Judges 2 - Our commitment toward God

Setting – The next generation of Israel provoked the Lord to anger because they worshiped Baal and Ashtaroth. God no longer drove out the inhabitants of the land. Judges where setup to help Israel out of the bondage, but once the judge died they quickly returned to their sinful ways.

Content – Israel didn’t tear down the foreign idols (v. 2), “and as for you, you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars.' But you have not obeyed Me; what is this you have done?” God no longer drove out the inhabitants before Israel.
Once Joshua and his generation died (v. 10), “…and there arose another generation after them who did not know the LORD, nor yet the work which He had done for Israel” and they did evil in the sight of God.
God raised up judges for Israel (v. 17), “Yet they did not listen to their judges, for they played the harlot after other gods and bowed themselves down to them. They turned aside quickly from the way in which their fathers had walked in obeying the commandments of the LORD; they did not do as {their fathers.}” Because of their disobedience (v. 23), “So the LORD allowed those nations to remain, not driving them out quickly; and He did not give them into the hand of Joshua.”

Application – The second generation of Israel didn’t remain committed to obeying God and His commandments. We need to drive out the sin in our lives and remain committed to the commands that God has given us; commitment to reading His word, prayer and dedication to Him.
If we wonder why we aren’t blessed in our lives we should take a look at our commitment to God and if are have dealt with sins in our life.
