Setting – The chapter contains Moses’ song for Israel. This chapter also contains God tell Moses of his death pending death.
Content – The song talks about Israel from Jacob. Verse 39 stands out, “'See now that I, I am He, And there is no god besides Me; It is I who put to death and give life. I have wounded and it is I who heal, And there is no one who can deliver from My hand.” The song mentions how Israel went after other gods and how God left them alone to their destruction.
This is the mountain that he saw Canaan from.
Application – God used a song to remind Israel of how they need to be faithful. Songs are useful because the melody provides us a way to recall the words. I still recall words to songs from years ago. I think we should be writing more scripture based songs so that God’s people can sing His word.
