Numbers 31

Setting - God commands Moses to go to war against the Midianites.
Content - 1,000 men from each tribe (12,000 total) went to war and Israel wins the war and without a loss of life (v. 49). The completely conquered all of the kings in Midian (v. 8) as well as Balaam. Israel returned all of the women and children and the plunder. At Moses command, they executed all of the male children and any non-virgin women. After this they needed to purify themselves.
Then they divided the spoil among them. The officers offered to the Lord gold, armlets, bracelets, signet rings, and etc., because no man was lost in the war.
Application - God’s vengeance was based up on the corruption of Israel at Peor. God doesn’t withhold His judgment on sin. Even though He is patient toward all men (humanity) He still executes judgment on sin and sinners at some point.
Even though we desire vengeance one those who wronged us, we were all sinners before and deserve God’s wrath upon us. Since we don’t God’s wrath poured out upon us, we need to pray for our enemies so that His wrath is not poured out upon them. With that said, those that choose to ignore God’s forgiveness have decided to invite God’s wrath upon them.
